Overtime Sports and DeFranco’s Training Prepare for Second Annual “World’s Strongest Athlete” Competition
Wayne, NJ – Overtime Sports has once again partnered with DeFranco’s Training to host the second annual “World’s Strongest Athlete” Competition on Saturday, July 17th at Overtime Sports in Wayne, NJ. Sean Thomas, a principal of Overtime Sports, stated, “The 2010 event will undoubtedly build upon the success of last year’s competition while further cultivating OT-Sports recognition among area athletes as the premier sports training facility.” Confirmed participants for this year’s competition include Brian Cushing: the 2009 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and the 2009 Strongest Athlete runner-up in the competition’s pro division, and Mackenzy Bernadeau: offensive lineman for the Carolina Panthers and the 2-time champion of the event going for a 3-peat.
The competition will include four separate divisions of athletes representing professional athletes, college athletes, police/fire/military personnel, and high school athletes. Each division will participate in four strength-challenging events designed to showcase the abilities of the athletes. The events include a 600 pound tire flip, a backward/forward sled drag, and hand-over-hand rope pull. New this year, replacing the super yolk, will be a “farmer’s walk” with weights ranging from 125 pounds to 205 pounds depending on the division. Due to high demand, a women’s division has also been added to the program.
Joe DeFranco, founder and owner of DeFranco’s Training in Wyckoff, NJ, added his thoughts about the continued partnership with Overtime Sports noting that, “This competition has really grown in notoriety among athletes of all levels; and I am very pleased with the partnership we have forged with Overtime Sports. I am once again looking forward to seeing the athletes compete in this unique event while supporting the important efforts of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.” To celebrate this prominent competition, a private auction and dinner will be held with all proceeds being donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
The competition will begin at 11 a.m. and spectators are once again welcome to join us beginning at 10 am. Admission for the event is $10 and will be collected at the door. Professional athletes will make themselves available to sign autographs and take pictures. T-shirts can also be purchased for $15.
