Overtime Sports and DeFranco's Training Celebrate a Successful Second Annual "World's Strongest Athlete" Competition
Wayne, NJ – Saturday, July 17th 2010 marked yet another triumphant year of the "World's Strongest Athlete" Competition for both Overtime Sports and DeFranco's Gym. This second annual event built upon the success the 2009 event, generating exciting events and raising awareness and $12,500 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. To raise even more money this year, an incredible VIP Charity Dinner for 200 friends, family members, clients and sponsors was held at the Brownstone just days before the contest. Joe DeFranco of DeFranco's Training Systems stated, "I'm so grateful that this unique form of training and competition can provide a platform to raise awareness for the REAL strongmen and women - those living and struggling with multiple sclerosis. If the growth of this year's World's Strongest Athlete Contest/Dinner is any indication of future success; I think we're going to be raising a lot of awareness - and money- for years to come." Together, Overtime Sports and DeFranco's Gym produced a wide array of publicity through many media sources covering the event.
The Competition, held at Overtime Sports in Wayne, NJ, included 3 separate divisions of athletes including over 80 participants. Events including the 600 pound tire flip, a backward/forward sled drag, a hand-over-hand rope pull, and a "farmer's walk" created enthusiasm amongst the 300 plus spectators. The proud winners included Kevin Kelly of the New Jersey State Police for the Police /Fire /Military Division, Andrew Sklover of Monmouth University football for the Collegiate Division, and Pat Cole of Hasbrouck Heights HS (NJ) Track and Field for the High School Athlete Division. The High School Division ended the competition with much anticipation during a tie breaker event. "This year's competition proved to be even more exhilarating than last year. The double overtime, sudden-death 'prowler push-off' sent high school competitors Patrick Cole and Travis Woods from Edison, NJ airborne to the finish line!" stated Sean Thomas, owner of Overtime Sports.
The newly added charity dinner this year set the tone for the unbelievable competition. Attending the event to show their support for the World's Strongest Athlete Competition were Joe Defranco's NFL clients such as Anthony Cotrone formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kevin Brock of the Dallas Cowboys, Brian Cushing of the Houston Texans, Vinny Ciurciu of the Detroit Lions, David Diehl of the NY Giants, Mackenzy Bernadeau of the Carolina Panthers, Kevin Walter of the Houston Texans, and Brian Witherspoon of the Carolina Panthers. David Diehl, NY Giants All-Pro tackle, stated, "I was honored to be a part of the World's Strongest Athlete Charity Dinner. The Brownstone provided a great venue for an even greater cause. I'm already looking forward to attending and contributing next year." Auctioning off Dave Diehl's Pro Bowl Jersey and Brian Cushing's jerseys alone helped raise $3000 for Multiple Sclerosis research!
The World's Strongest Athlete Competition and Charity Dinner could not have been such a success had it not been for the fabulous sponsors involved. Sica Wealth Management, Benard Associates, The Gridiron Academy, Elite Fitness, Colins International, Devotion Vodka, Infinity Photography, Blue Diamond Disposal, Graphically Speaking, Lincoln, Cummings Creative Group, Nutrition Treatment Center, MBM Advertising, Ridgewood Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, and Hero's Salute Awards Company were extremely generous with their donations. Many people and organizations truly showed their charity by donating to such a great cause.
